Addressing Food Insecurity With Compassion
Harvest Gleaners works to address food insecurity by providing healthy food to underserved communities in the DMV area. Our mission is clear: to ensure no one in need has to choose between basic necessities, like meals and medicine. Through compassion and dedication, we aim to, at the very least, help alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with the increasing costs of groceries.Â
Who We Are
Founded in 2019 by Carol McCarty and Mark Scuderi, Harvest Gleaners is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to fight food insecurity in low-income communities across the DMV area. As our reach has grown, we have extended our services to at-risk youth centers, assisted living communities, shelters, and other underserved groups. We rely on the generosity of volunteers to rescue surplus food, which is then picked up daily by our authorized volunteers and then distributed to those in need, thereby reducing waste and promoting care.

How We Serve
Harvest Gleaners is a volunteer-driven organization that gathers surplus food from grocery stores, food banks, and community partners, distributing it to those in need across the DMV area. This effort is made possible by our dedicated volunteers, both independent and community participants. Our services are provided free of charge, supporting a variety of communities, including:
Food Rescue and Community Impact
No one should go hungry when food is available. By rescuing surplus food and items nearing their shelf life, we reduce waste while providing nourishment to vulnerable communities.

Join Our Mission
Our mission is to provide low-income communities in the DMV, access to healthy food, and hygiene items for our seniors at no charge. Seniors are a valuable and integral part of our society, yet are often overlooked. With the rising cost of medical expenses and other costs of living, they shouldn't have to decide between meals, medicine. They deserve a life without worry and it's our responsibility to take care of those who have blessed so many for years.
We are a volunteer self-funded food rescue organization that recovers and equips distribution sites with healthy food to serve low-income families and seniors in the DMV. Our goal is to help resolve food insecurity in the DMV as families strive to meet their daily food needs.
